Democratic Party's 'Woo Sang-ho Emergency Committee' Officially Launches Today... Central Committee Agenda Submitted
Agenda for the Formation of 6 Members Including Woo Sang-ho
Youth, Women, and Other Positions to Be Appointed Later
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The Democratic Party of Korea, which has formed an 'Innovation Emergency Committee,' will launch the Emergency Committee on the 10th after approval by the Central Committee.
On this day, the Democratic Party held a Central Committee meeting and submitted the agenda for the approval of the Emergency Committee members and the delegation of authority for additional appointments. The Central Committee members planned to complete the approval of the agenda through an online vote by 3 p.m.
Previously, the party leadership gathered opinions through joint meetings of party executives and lawmakers, meetings of lawmakers by seniority, and discussions between provincial party chairpersons and non-incumbent chairpersons, followed by a resolution at the party executive meeting to prepare a list of six Emergency Committee members.
Woo Sang-ho, a four-term lawmaker, was nominated as the Emergency Committee Chairperson, while Han Jeong-ae, a three-term lawmaker, Park Jae-ho, a two-term lawmaker, and Lee Yong-woo, a first-term lawmaker, were appointed as committee members. Among the non-incumbent figures, Kim Hyun-jung, Chairperson of the Non-incumbent Committee Chairpersons Council, and ex officio Park Hong-geun, floor leader, were included. Youth, women, and other quota members will be appointed later.
Once approved by the Central Committee, the Emergency Committee will have the authority to exercise the powers of the Supreme Council until the national delegate convention in August.
On this day, Central Committee Chairperson Byun Jae-il stated, "As everyone knows, it seems that phrases like 'it's my fault' or 'it's our fault' are not being heard well within us." He added, "Rather, caught in factional politics that shift the blame for defeat onto the other side amid unclear divisions, the public is increasingly distancing themselves from us, which is a concern we cannot ignore." He further said, "This Emergency Committee must manage the party, which has fallen into extreme confusion, and prepare for the next party convention."
