Mokwon University Advances Government-Supported 'SW Talent Development Project'
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A consortium including Mokwon University is promoting a software (SW) talent development project with government support.
According to Mokwon University on the 9th, the university recently formed a consortium with Chungnam National University (lead institution), Sunmoon University, ITCEN Co., Ltd., TmaxTibero Co., Ltd., and Softitech Co., Ltd. to apply for the "2022 SW Talent Development Project" announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation. As a result, the consortium was finally selected as the project implementation consortium.
The project type the consortium applied for is the "Network-type Campus SW Academy" category. The Campus SW Academy aims to establish a sustainable collaboration system between regional university consortia and companies to quickly respond to the demand for SW personnel in the region and expand job opportunities for local youth.
According to the selection results, the consortium will receive government funding to develop core technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as artificial intelligence, databases, cloud, and web development (frontend and backend), while nurturing talent immediately applicable to industry demands.
The government funding will be provided to the consortium for four years. The funding scale is 1.125 billion KRW for the first year and 2.25 billion KRW annually thereafter.
Within the consortium, Mokwon University will take charge of professionally operating the "Web Frontend Track" educational program. To operate this program, the university established the "Mokwon University SW Talent Development Center" within its Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation last month.
The curriculum operated by the center will focus on training web frontend developers who can be immediately deployed in the industrial field. To enhance the quality of the curriculum, current developers have been involved directly in its development.
The education will be conducted through an intensive summer vacation course (320 hours) and a linked course with the computer engineering major during the second semester (360 hours). Those who complete all courses will have the opportunity to be employed by about 30 companies that have pre-agreed on recruitment with the university.
The first recruitment of trainees is open until the 20th of this month. For more detailed information about the education, please check the notice board on Mokwon University’s website.
