From the 7th to the 9th, Park received work reports focusing on the progress of tasks and policy issues by department and headquarters, with committee members from each division participating at the transition team office set up at the Gyeongnam Research Institute.
On the first day, the 7th, the industrial economy and construction safety sector work reports focused on attracting domestic and foreign companies, expanding jobs, and supporting startups.
The governor-elect requested preparations for consultations with central government ministries such as the Ministry of Science and Technology to accelerate the establishment of the Aerospace Agency, a presidential campaign pledge.
The Economic Promotion Agency, which has many overlapping tasks with the provincial office, was reviewed for its functional transition into a specialized investment attraction institution, and Park ordered the province to play an active role, including government appeals, to expedite the construction of the Southern Inland Railway.
Park said, “To properly attract investments from domestic and foreign companies, a separate organization and professional personnel are necessary,” adding, “Let us focus on brainstorming and coming up with ideas on how to create unique jobs specific to Gyeongnam and how to systematically support startup activities.”
The Namhae offshore wind power complex will be reconsidered in light of fishermen’s opposition and many issues, and the best efforts were requested, including government appeals, to expedite the early construction of Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4.
Regarding contentious large-scale projects such as Robot Land, Jangmok Tourism Complex, and Ungdong District 1, he emphasized, “Check whether the province has been negligent so far and clarify the province’s role and responsibility,” and stressed, “Special efforts must be made to prevent the recurrence of mistakes.”
He also mentioned plans to employ retired middle-aged workers for public interest projects, smart management of rivers and facilities safety, securing budgets for upgrading local roads to national roads and expanding metropolitan transportation networks, and efforts to reflect these in national plans.
Park requested, “If the province tries to handle everything including the Hometown Love Donation Program, social economy enterprises, and various execution and civil affairs tasks promoted by cities and counties, it could lead to inefficiency,” and urged, “Let’s distinguish the roles of the province and the cities/counties.”
The province explained that it should not only approve projects proposed by cities and counties but also focus on viewing Gyeongnam’s development from a comprehensive perspective, drawing the big picture, and leading the way.
