Last Month's Imported Car Sales 23,512 Units... 2% Decrease Compared to Previous Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The Korea Imported Automobile Association announced on the 7th that the number of newly registered imported passenger cars last month was 23,512 units. This is a 2.4% decrease compared to May of last year. It increased by 1.9% compared to the previous April. The cumulative number of new registrations from January to May this year was 108,314 units, a 10.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.
By brand, Mercedes-Benz recorded the highest with 7,388 units. BMW followed with 6,402 units, Audi with 1,865 units, and Volkswagen with 1,182 units. Mini had 1,087 units, Volvo 1,015 units, Porsche 702 units, and Jeep 591 units.
Among the top-selling brands, except for BMW and Audi, most brands saw a decrease in sales compared to the same period last year. In particular, based on the cumulative figures from January to May this year, except for BMW, all brands with over 1,000 new registrations experienced a decline compared to last year.
Among the newly registered vehicles last month, gasoline accounted for 48.7%, hybrid 29.8%, diesel 13.2%, plug-in hybrid 3.8%, and electric vehicles 4.5%. The best-selling model was the Mercedes-Benz mid-size sedan E 350 4MATIC, with 2,010 units sold.
