60s Sentenced to Prison for Embezzling 120 Million Won Using Two Sons' Big Company Employment as Bait
A man in his 60s who swindled 120 million won by using employment at a large corporation as bait was sentenced to prison.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Intern Lee Gyehwa] A man in his 60s who deceived a victim by claiming to work in the secretarial office of a large corporation and extorted over 100 million won by promising to secure jobs for the victim's two sons was sentenced to prison.
The Ulsan District Court, 3rd Criminal Division (Judge Noh Seoyoung), announced on the 7th that it sentenced Mr. A (61), who was indicted on charges of fraud, to 2 years and 6 months in prison.
Mr. A was charged with deceiving Mr. B in October 2019 at a Chinese restaurant in Jung-gu, Ulsan, by claiming he worked in the secretarial office of a large corporation and promising to secure jobs for his two sons for 60 million won each, extorting a total of 120 million won.
Mr. A was previously sentenced to 1 year and 2 months in prison with a 2-year probation in July 2005 for embezzling 66 million won through employment fraud. During the probation period, he committed the same type of crime again, extorting 100 million won, for which he served 2 years in prison. Additionally, in July 2018, he was sentenced to 6 months in prison for embezzling 80 million won through employment fraud using the same method.

The court stated the sentencing rationale, saying, "Despite having a history of multiple punishments for similar crimes, he committed the offense during the recidivism period, showing poor criminal character, and since the victim has not been compensated, severe punishment is inevitable."
