Busan City Invests 10 Billion KRW to Train Skilled Workforce in Manufacturing... Establishing Stable Job Foundations
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan City will invest 10 billion KRW in cultivating local high-level talent in the manufacturing sector.
On the 30th, the city was selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s public contest project, the ‘Smart Manufacturing High-Level Talent Cultivation Project,’ securing 8 billion KRW in national funding.
The ‘Smart Manufacturing High-Level Talent Cultivation Project’ is a program that builds practical infrastructure tailored to specialized industries within the Smart Green Industrial Complex, strengthens the capabilities of existing employees, and supports education for local talent to cultivate high-level smart manufacturing personnel.
The project is led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and supported by the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation.
Since last year, the city has planned phased educational courses with four local universities?Busan Industry-Academy Convergence Institute, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Silla University, Dong-A University, and Busan University of Science and Technology?and was selected for the public contest project.
The planned educational courses include ▲ job transition for current employees ▲ capability enhancement training for current employees ▲ a smart manufacturing-related interdisciplinary credit course called the ‘degree course’ ▲ and education linked to local specialized high schools, totaling four fields.
With the selection in the public contest project, the city will invest a total of about 10 billion KRW over two years starting this year, including 8 billion KRW in national funds, 800 million KRW in city funds, and about 1 billion KRW in private investment, to promote smart manufacturing innovation and create new jobs in shipbuilding equipment, automobile parts, and intelligent machinery industries.
Key initiatives include investing 4.1 billion KRW to cultivate high-level smart manufacturing talent in three core industrial fields of the Smart Green Industrial Complex?shipbuilding equipment, automobile parts, and intelligent machinery parts and materials?and to establish a cloud-based educational platform to drive corporate innovation and growth.
The cloud-based educational platform will build educational facilities at Busan Industry-Academy Convergence Institute, Korea Maritime and Ocean University, Dong-A University, Silla University, and Busan University of Science and Technology, linking them via the cloud for shared use.
At the Busan Industry-Academy Convergence Institute, four training rooms will be equipped with metal 3D printers, design equipment, and software for design and structural analysis.
Each of the four universities will establish one training room equipped with necessary equipment and software to allow free use of facilities and equipment for education.
The city will invest 2 billion KRW to develop and operate customized educational courses tailored to the demand of specialized fields for realizing smart manufacturing in the same industrial sectors.
The customized courses will be divided into a job competency enhancement course for 300 current employees annually and a new recruitment training course for 250 university graduates annually.
Industry-academia joint projects will support corporate growth and establish a local employment system for regional talent.
The industry-academia joint projects serve as a collaborative model among local governments, industry, and academia, acting as a hub to drive regional company development and create new technologies by forming joint projects between excellent local university talent and regional companies to solve technical challenges.
