Exit polls from 3 Broadcasters Show 'People Power Party Leading in 10 Areas, Democratic Party in 4'... Choosing 'National Stability' (Update)
Daejeon and Sejong Included, 'Gyeonggi Governor' as a Key Indicator in This Local Election Race
Democratic Party Expected Early Wins in 8 Areas vs. People Power Party Targeting 8-9, Mixed Reactions
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] According to the exit polls conducted by the three major broadcasters for the June 1 nationwide local elections, the People Power Party (PPP) is leading in 10 out of 17 metropolitan mayoral races, while the Democratic Party (DP) is ahead in 4. This local election, held just over three months after the presidential election in March, is interpreted as the public endorsing the ruling party, the PPP, to ensure 'government stability.' The races in Gyeonggi, Sejong, and Daejeon showed a close contest.

The Democratic Party is likely to win in 4 areas: Gwangju, Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, and Jeju.
Compared to the 7th local elections where the Democratic Party won in all regions except Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju, the results show a reversal of fortunes after four years.

In the Gyeonggi Province governor race, considered a key indicator of the election outcome, PPP candidate Kim Eun-hye had 49.4%, narrowly ahead of Democratic candidate Kim Dong-yeon with 48.8%.
The Democratic Party initially expected to win in 8 areas in this local election, but due to internal conflicts and sexual misconduct scandals, the outlook worsened, and they considered securing 5 areas a good result. However, seeing the exit polls showing a lead in only 4 out of 17 areas, the party appeared dismayed. The Democratic Party leadership maintained serious expressions and refrained from answering reporters' questions.
