Gurye-gun Promotes 3 Lows and 3 Highs Campaign for Rice Farming
Reduce Nitrogen Fertilizer Use to Produce High-Quality Rice
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun announced that it will promote the 3 Low·3 High movement, which reduces cultivation area and nitrogen fertilizer production costs (3 Low) and increases rice consumption, new variety cultivation, and rice consumption volume (3 High) to produce high-quality rice.
Reducing the amount of nitrogen fertilizer from the current 9kg per 10a to 7kg per 10a decreases rice production, but improves rice quality, thereby increasing the production of top-quality rice.
Additionally, fertilizer costs are reduced, lodging of rice plants decreases, the ratio of perfect grains rises to over 90%, leading to higher rice purchase prices and lower production costs, resulting in a win-win effect.
An official from the Gurye-gun Agricultural Technology Center said, “The starting point for this year's rice farming is timely rice transplanting and reducing excessive nitrogen fertilizer use. Since overproduction of rice every year causes income deterioration, we ask for active participation in the 3 Low·3 High movement to improve the profitability of rice farming.”
