Samsung Electro-Mechanics is now actively expanding its cyberbullying prevention activities, which had been conducted remotely due to COVID-19.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced on the 31st that it participated in the Blue Tree Foundation’s cyberbullying prevention campaign on the way to school at Maewon Elementary School in Suwon. Attendees included Samsung Electro-Mechanics President Jang Deok-hyun, Maewon Elementary School Principal Lee Jae-soon, Blue Tree Foundation founder and Honorary Chairman Kim Jong-gi, and Blue Tree Foundation Chairman Kim Kyung-sung.
President Jang participated in the 'Cyberbullying Prevention Campaign,' distributing pamphlets and souvenirs to students on their way to school, and then moved to observe the cyberbullying prevention education held on campus. The education was conducted by a cyberbullying prevention specialist who used real cases to help students understand the victim’s perspective, followed by dilemma discussions with students to prevent and respond to cyberbullying.
After observing the education, Samsung Electro-Mechanics President Jang said, "During this important youth period when they plan and prepare for their future lives, warm interest and encouragement from adults are more necessary than anything else," adding, "Samsung Electro-Mechanics will do its best to solve the youth cyberbullying problem, which has recently emerged as a social issue."
Going forward, Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to recruit volunteer talent donors among its employees and their families, and form a youth cyberbullying prevention club called 'Jiji Crew' to actively participate in actual non-violence campaigns and other activities.
The 'Blue Elephant' project, a youth cyberbullying prevention initiative started in February 2020 by the Blue Tree Foundation and Samsung’s electronics affiliates, combines 'elephant,' which protects each other in groups, and Samsung’s symbolic color 'blue,' symbolizing the prevention and eradication of violence in the cyber jungle. Currently, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is the main organizer of the project.
