Yongin City Conducts 'Environmental Safety Inspection' of Apartment Children's Playgrounds
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is set to inspect environmental safety management standards, including heavy metals, at children's playgrounds within apartment complexes.
On the 31st, Yongin City announced that it will conduct inspections on 44 playgrounds that have not been checked in the past three years by next month 2, focusing on sand and facilities.
During the inspection period, the city will work with the Korea Conformity Laboratories, a specialized institution, to review environmental safety management standards in children's playgrounds and conduct detailed tests using heavy metal detectors to check for harmful heavy metals in sand or playground equipment that could affect children.
For playgrounds that fail to meet safety standards based on the test results, the city will issue facility improvement orders and revisit the sites later to verify whether improvements have been made.
A city official stated, "We will carefully monitor to ensure that children, who are vulnerable to harmful substances, are not exposed to heavy metals, etc. We will continue to do our best so that children can play safely and confidently in playgrounds."
