Fair Trade Commission Recruiting Monitors for False and Exaggerated Advertising in Live Commerce
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) is strengthening its monitoring of false and exaggerated advertisements in the live commerce sector.
On the 30th, the KFTC announced that it will select about 80 consumer monitoring agents for intensive surveillance of live commerce. Live commerce refers to an interactive online shopping channel where products are introduced and sold while communicating with viewers in real time.
The monitoring agents will be responsible for watching whether sellers properly provide essential product information and do not advertise with false or exaggerated content, and reporting any suspected illegal activities to the KFTC.
If a report is accepted, the informant can receive a reward from the KFTC. An initial reward of 40,000 KRW will be paid upon acceptance of the report, and an additional 10,000 KRW will be given after a certain period once the corrective actions of the business operator are confirmed.
Adults aged 20 and over who wish to participate can apply through the KFTC website by the 13th of next month. The activity period is tentatively from July to November.

The KFTC stated, "Recently, not only large retailers and specialized platform operators but also major portal operators are running live commerce. Through the operation of monitoring agents, we aim to quickly detect violations of the Electronic Commerce Act and other laws, encourage voluntary correction, and if necessary, conduct ex officio investigations based on the reports."
