Gimhae City Lifts Movement Restrictions in High Pathogenic AI Quarantine Zone
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, fully lifted the movement restriction measures on poultry farms and facilities within a 10 km radius of the high pathogenic avian influenza (AI) quarantine zone on the 30th.
The city announced that after 30 days had passed since the culling and cleaning/disinfection of the AI-affected farms, clinical and detailed inspections were conducted on 638 poultry farms within the quarantine zone, and no abnormalities were found.
This comes 53 days after the detection of high pathogenic AI at a layer farm located in Hallim-myeon on April 7, which led to the implementation of movement restrictions.
With the full lifting of movement restrictions, all poultry farms are now allowed to restock; however, restocking at high pathogenic AI-affected farms, farms subjected to preventive culling, and duck farms will only be permitted after on-site inspections by the city and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency confirm no abnormalities.
The city stated that it will continue to conduct guidance and inspections to ensure compliance with poultry farm regulations until September in preparation for the high-risk winter season for high pathogenic AI.
A city official expressed gratitude to livestock farmers and related personnel for their cooperation with culling and movement restriction measures following the high pathogenic AI outbreak, and urged farms to continue thorough biosecurity and surveillance management, including intensive disinfection inside and outside the poultry houses, even after the quarantine zone has been lifted.
