From June 24, the 'Island Hydrangea Festival' will be held for 10 days on Dochodo Island, Sinan-gun
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, is restarting the ‘Island Hydrangea Festival,’ which had been suspended since 2019 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Held under the theme “Meeting Hydrangeas on the 10-ri Pangnamu Road,” this festival will take place for 10 days from June 24 to July 3 on Dochodo Island in Sinan-gun.
During the festival, visitors can enjoy the vibrant and colorful 10.04 million hydrangea flowers blooming in different shades depending on the soil composition, not only in the Hydrangea Park but also in the Fantasy Garden (Pangnamu 10-ri Road).
In particular, the Pangnamu 10-ri Road, which won the Jeollanam-do Urban Forest Evaluation Grand Prize in 2020 and the Korea Forest Service Excellence Award in the Street Tree category in 2021, features a spectacular view of 716 premium Pangnamu trees stretching endlessly. It is an ideal healing walking trail where visitors can gain flower energy while strolling along the forest path with fresh breezes.
Additionally, near the Hydrangea Park is the filming location of the movie Jasaneobo, where Jeong Yak-jeon, exiled to Heuksando Island, meets the island youth Changdae and shares a friendship beyond status and age, providing another attraction for visiting tourists.
Park Young-seong, the festival promotion committee chairman, stated, “We are thoroughly preparing in advance to ensure that everyone who visits Hydrangea Park can fully enjoy the 10.04 million beautiful hydrangea flowers and that the festival becomes a place people want to visit again every year.”
