Gyeongbuk Province Holds Seminar on Directions for Fostering the Marine Leisure Vessel Industry
Fostering the Eco-Friendly and High-Efficiency Autonomous Leisure Vessel Industry
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] On the 30th, Gyeongbuk Province held a seminar on the direction of fostering the marine leisure ship industry at the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, attended by about 50 participants including researchers, university professors, and companies related to the shipbuilding industry.
At this seminar, thematic presentations were made on ▲Development and future direction of advanced marine leisure ships (Park Chung-hwan, Head of Marine Leisure Safety Research Center, Small and Medium Shipbuilding Research Institute) ▲Development direction and themes of Gyeongbuk Province's marine leisure industry (Eom Dae-young, Professor at Uiduk University) ▲Current status and future tasks of the local small and medium shipbuilding industry (Kim Su-hwan, CEO of Dongseong Shipbuilding).
Center Director Park Chung-hwan mentioned the need to develop eco-friendly and high-efficiency autonomous leisure ships in line with carbon neutrality, as well as the necessity to establish standardization and certification systems for leisure ships.
Professor Eom Dae-young proposed the establishment of a Gyeongbuk Province marine leisure industry development strategy organization to spread marine-friendly culture and build a virtuous cycle system for the marine leisure ship industry.
CEO Kim Su-hwan of Dongseong Shipbuilding presented the current status, issues, and development and response strategies for the small and medium shipbuilding industry through analysis of overseas cases.
Following this, under the chairmanship of Park Se-heon, Director of Marine Science and Technology Policy Office at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, a heated discussion took place with Lee Kyung-gon, Director of East Coast Strategic Industry Bureau of Gyeongbuk Province; Seo Kyung-seok, Director of Business Planning Office at Marine Fisheries Science and Technology Promotion Institute; Min Jeong-tak, Head of Strategic Business Division at Korea Institute of Robot Convergence; Professor Cho Han-gil of Robotics and Smart Systems Engineering at Kyungpook National University; Lee Jong-ho, General Director of Hanil News; and Yoon Sang-hyun, Research Fellow at Daegu-Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology.
Experts noted that Korea's shipbuilding industry is led by large-scale shipyards in Ulsan and Gyeongnam, while Gyeongbuk is relatively disadvantaged.
As a solution, Gyeongbuk Province suggested the necessity of focusing on small and medium-sized eco-friendly leisure ships, developing design and construction technologies, establishing test beds, standardizing parts and equipment, and supporting certification.
