Is Canada Considering Indirect Weapon Support to Ukraine... Exploring the Possibility of Ammunition Exports
[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The government is reportedly reviewing a recent request from Canada to export artillery shells. Canada is said to be pursuing the import of shells to support Ukraine, so if the government approves the export, it would effectively mean indirect weapon support to Ukraine.
According to military officials on the 29th, Canada recently inquired whether it could export 100,000 rounds of 155mm shells. The Ministry of National Defense is reviewing Canada's request but has not yet proceeded with any official procedures. Canada, which has sent a large number of 155mm shells to Ukraine, made the request to the Korean government as its domestic reserves have become insufficient.
If the government accepts Canada's request, manufacturer Company P will supply the shells to Canada. Last month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly requested weapon support during a video speech to the Korean National Assembly. Until now, the government has maintained a cautious stance on lethal weapon support, effectively holding a negative position.
