Prime Minister Han: "We will accelerate the construction of the Central Infectious Disease Specialized Hospital"
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] The government plans to accelerate the construction of the 'Central Infectious Disease Specialized Hospital,' a control tower for infectious disease medical response.
Prime Minister Han Deok-soo announced this on the 27th during the first COVID-19 Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters meeting he presided over since taking office at the Government Seoul Office.
Prime Minister Han said, "Even if a crisis comes again, the government will thoroughly prepare the quarantine and medical response system to protect the daily lives of the people," adding, "To respond professionally and stably to infectious diseases like COVID-19, we will accelerate the construction of the 'Central Infectious Disease Specialized Hospital,' which serves as the control tower for on-site infectious disease medical response."
He also stated, "We will establish a 'big data platform' to effectively utilize the experience gained from the fight against COVID-19," and added, "We will systematically link and integrate information scattered across various institutions to create a foundation for science-based quarantine measures and to support related research and the development of the health industry."
He continued, "For high-risk groups such as the elderly aged 60 and over, testing, diagnosis, and prescription of therapeutics will be conducted in a one-stop process within a day, and if necessary, they will be able to be admitted to dedicated hospitals without delay."

Regarding the first outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) this year in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, he urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to conduct a thorough epidemiological investigation into the route of infection, and requested that related ministries such as the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and local governments cooperate to ensure strict quarantine management to prevent further spread.
