Delivery workers are also recognized for industrial accidents in case of work-related incidents...
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] From now on, delivery workers affiliated with delivery platforms such as Baedal Minjok and Coupang Eats will be recognized for industrial accidents if they suffer accidents during work.
On the 26th, the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee approved amendments to the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act and the Act on the Collection of Insurance Premiums for Employment Insurance and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance to allow platform workers to be covered by industrial accident insurance.
The core of the bill is the abolition of the "exclusivity to a specific business" requirement that was demanded for special-type workers, such as delivery riders. Until now, many delivery workers were unable to receive compensation despite being enrolled in industrial accident insurance because they did not meet the exclusivity requirement, which stipulated certain income and working hours.
