[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province's 'Peace Theme Park Development Project,' aimed at inheriting, developing, and utilizing the legacy of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, is expected to be in full swing in the second half of this year.
The Peace Theme Park, planned to be built in Hoenggye-ri, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, will be located on the 58,835㎡ site that was used as the Olympic Medal Plaza during the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
With a total project cost of 24.5 billion KRW, a two-story Pyeongchang Peace Center with a total area of 4,300㎡ will be constructed, along with a commemorative plaza and memorial park.
Pyeongchang-gun plans to operate the Peace Theme Park as a youth festival site during the '2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics,' utilizing it as an event space for winter Olympic game experiences and peace-themed poetry and painting exhibitions.
It will also be linked with major tourist attractions such as Balwangsan Cable Car and Daegwallyeong Sheep Ranch to attract domestic and international tourists.
The Peace Theme Park development project is currently in the final stage of design services, with construction scheduled to begin in September and completion targeted by the end of next year, before the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics.
