The Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 8 (Chief Judge Cha Joo-hee) sentenced Mr. A (37), who was indicted without detention on charges of drunk driving and unlicensed driving under the Road Traffic Act and violation of the Resident Registration Act, to one year in prison and ordered his detention in court on the 23rd.
On January 12th at around 11 p.m., Mr. A was caught by police while driving a friend's car without a license and under the influence on a road in Seo-gu, Daejeon. At that time, Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was 0.125%, which is above the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).
When asked for personal information by the police officer, Mr. A gave his older brother's name and resident registration number, and it was reported that he signed the police's portable information terminal (PDA) notification of drunk driving enforcement under his older brother's name.
After the incident, Mr. A later turned himself in to the police. He had previously been sentenced to prison in 2011 for drunk and unlicensed driving.
