Seongnam City Appoints Four Occupational Health Physicians... For 800 City Employees
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province has appointed four occupational health physicians to prevent industrial accidents among its on-site workers.
They will be responsible for medical measures and advisory roles to prevent industrial accidents and promote health for about 8,000 workers including temporary employees and public officials working on site, environment guardians, senior job participants, security guards, and citizen patrol teams affiliated with Seongnam City.
According to the Industrial Safety and Health Act, they will review workers' health examination results, provide medical opinions on action items based on the condition of those subject to special health examinations, and suggest alternatives to eliminate health hazards in the workplace through individual consultations.
The city will establish safety management plans related to major and industrial accident responses and conduct workplace inspections together with the occupational health physicians.
The occupational health physicians are part-time, and the appointment period is two years.

A city official emphasized, "We appointed occupational health physicians to ensure that on-site workers can receive professional health management in a safe working environment," adding, "We will focus administrative efforts on preventing major industrial accidents and ensuring safety and health."
