According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the shooting occurred around 11:42 a.m. on the Q train heading from the Manhattan Bridge to Canal Street station. The 46-year-old victim was taken to a nearby hospital but died.
The police stated at a press conference shortly after, "The victim was riding in the last car of the train when a man who was pacing back and forth pulled out a gun and shot at close range." The shooter immediately fled when the train arrived at the station platform. Police are currently pursuing the suspect. He is described as a large man with a beard, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, gray pants, and white sneakers.
