[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jang Yeonju, the Justice Party candidate for mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, announced cultural and artistic pledges encompassing seven policy areas under the theme of "A Cultural and Human Rights City Visited by the World," including "Spreading the Spirit of May 18 Worldwide! Toward the Future!"
Candidate Jang stated, "On the 42nd anniversary of May 18, we must widely promote the May 18 spirit to the world and pass it on to future generations," adding, "To create an artistic environment where Gwangju citizens and visitors can experience and appreciate the Gwangju spirit 365 days a year, we will build a dedicated May 18 art hall and establish the May 18 World Human Rights Residence."
She continued, "To open an era of citizen cultural sovereignty, we will introduce the Culture Nuri Card and a basic income system for cultural artists to ensure their sustainable livelihood," and said, "We will prepare various social security measures, including support for employment insurance premiums, to create stable conditions for creative work."
