Hampyeong-gun 'Releasing 518 Butterflies' to Commemorate May Martyrs
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 16th that it released 518 white butterflies of Hampyeong, symbolizing purity and peace, at the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery to commemorate the spirits of the May 18 Democratic Movement.
The event was held to console the spirits of the May martyrs, attended by Acting Mayor of Hampyeong County Lee Byung-yong, Chairman of the Hampyeong County Council Kim Hyung-mo, heads of departments, and town and township chiefs.
The attendees prayed for the repose of the May martyrs and released 518 white butterflies, raised by Hampyeong County, into the sky above the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery.
