Drawing a Blueprint for Supporting Activities of Disabled Artists
Ministry of Culture Public Hearing: "Refining Policies by Reflecting On-Site Opinions"
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold a public hearing on the 17th at the Eum Center in Daehak-ro, Seoul, to establish a basic plan for supporting cultural and artistic activities of artists with disabilities. The main contents of the basic plan will be explained, and opinions from field experts will be heard. The keynote presentations will include Kyu-chan Kim, Research Fellow at the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute; Gui-yeom Go, Head of Vocational Rehabilitation Department at the Korea Disabled Development Institute; and Hyun-kyung Kim, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute. They will discuss the creation of a creative ecosystem for artists with disabilities, expansion of job opportunities, improvement of accessibility, and raising awareness. The panel discussion will feature Eun-ju Bae, President of the Korea Federation of Disabled Cultural and Arts Organizations; Byung-eun Jeong, Researcher at the Social Development Research Institute of Seoul National University; Chang-woo Shim, Head of Employment Support Department at the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled; Yong-woo Kim, President of the Korea Disabled Dance Association; and Jin-ah Jang, Secretary General of the Heart Heart Foundation. A Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism official stated, "According to the enforcement of the 'Act on Support for Cultural and Artistic Activities of Artists with Disabilities,' it is necessary to present policy directions for the related basic plan every five years and establish a support system. We will revitalize cultural and artistic activities of artists with disabilities and improve their quality of life by reflecting field opinions." The public hearing will be broadcast live on the Korea Disabled Culture and Arts Institute's YouTube channel.
