Tongyeong Election Commission Reports Two Individuals for Donation Acts on Behalf of Preliminary Candidates
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Tongyeong City Election Commission in Gyeongnam has filed charges against two individuals for making donations on behalf of preliminary candidates running in the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections.
According to the Tongyeong Election Commission, Mr. A and Mr. B conspired to invite 10 voters from the electoral district in mid-April to hold a meal gathering for the preliminary candidates.
The Election Commission reported that the two individuals had the preliminary candidate attend the event to distribute business cards and appeal for support, and spent a total of approximately 180,000 KRW on meal expenses, thereby committing donation acts for the preliminary candidate. They were reported to the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office Tongyeong Branch on the 12th.
It was explained that Article 115 of the Public Official Election Act (Donation Acts by Third Parties) stipulates that no one may make or cause to make donation acts for a candidate (including those intending to become candidates) in relation to an election.
