View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) announced that the 14th Dongdaemun-gu Multicultural Harmony Festival and World Culture Festival will be held on May 21, organized by the Dongdaemun-gu Family Center (Director Han Mi-young).
This festival, which provides an opportunity for multicultural families and general families residing in Dongdaemun-gu to harmonize and communicate, will be conducted both in-person and online.
The event starts at 10 a.m. and includes ▲a performance by the multicultural family children’s theater group ‘Eoulmadang’ ▲a performance by the migrant women’s choir ‘Haengbok Mea-ri’ ▲a multicultural talk show by global supporters ▲a multicultural family children’s orchestra performance, all broadcast through the Dongdaemun-gu Family Center YouTube channel.
From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., a Korean speaking contest for immigrants will also be held at the Dongdaemun-gu Family Center.
Additionally, on the 6th and 7th floors of the Dongdaemun-gu Family Center, multicultural world culture experience (craft experience) will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Here, participants can experience making ▲Uzbekistan Elpigich (fan) ▲Japanese Furin (wind chime making) ▲Cambodian Khen (traditional flute) ▲Vietnamese Zhuon Zhuon (horizontal dragonfly), as well as enjoy ▲a world traditional costume photo zone ▲an environmental campaign ‘Upcycling Flowerpot Making’ ▲and a world fortune-telling experience. Any resident of the district can participate in the experience programs.

A district official stated, “Since this festival is held in celebration of World Day for Cultural Diversity on May 20 and Family Month in May, it will be a more meaningful event,” adding, “We hope this will be an opportunity for residents, who have been exhausted by COVID-19, to enjoy various cultures of different countries, understand each other, and receive positive energy.”
