Operation of the 'Conflict of Interest Prevention Reporting Center' in Nam-gu, Gwangju
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is preparing to implement the 'Conflict of Interest Prevention Act' starting from the 19th, which aims to prevent the impairment of fairness and integrity in public officials' duties due to personal interests. To create a transparent public service environment, Nam-gu is operating a Conflict of Interest Prevention Reporting Center to eradicate corruption.
On the 12th, Nam-gu announced, "To effectively manage potential conflict of interest situations arising during duty performance, we will operate a voluntary reporting period for private interests targeting district office public officials, run a Conflict of Interest Prevention Reporting Center, and conduct related legal education."
First, to establish a culture of conflict of interest prevention within the public service, Nam-gu designated a 10-day voluntary reporting period for private interests from the 9th to the 18th. All employees are encouraged to self-diagnose through a checklist to promote voluntary reporting.
Additionally, in line with this purpose, Acting Mayor Lee Jeong-sik of Nam-gu and staff from the Audit Department conducted a campaign targeting employees at the main and rear entrances of the district office on the morning of the same day. Another campaign to fundamentally block conflicts of interest is scheduled for the 17th.
Furthermore, Nam-gu plans to add a Conflict of Interest Prevention Reporting Center section to the 'Corruption Zero Clean Nam-gu Reporting Center for Public Officials' on the Nam-gu district office website by early next week.
The Conflict of Interest Prevention Reporting Center will be linked to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's Integrity Portal. Internal public officials and residents can report acts where public officials use their positions to favor relatives with work assignments or hire family members for personal gain through this channel.
In addition, until December, Nam-gu will provide education on 10 behavioral standards for preventing conflicts of interest to personnel in charge of human resources, contracts, construction, and subsidy projects within the district office. This includes prohibitions on private contact with retirees, transactions with related parties, use of confidential information, and private use of public goods.
