[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] A brain hemorrhage was discovered in the head of a two-month-old newborn, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
On the 11th, according to the Gwangju Police Agency and Dongbu Police Station, a staff member affiliated with a university hospital in Dong-gu, Gwangju, reported to the police suspecting child abuse after discovering a brain hemorrhage in the head of newborn girl A the day before.
Girl A, who had symptoms of vomiting and enteritis last month, was treated at three different hospitals but her condition did not improve, leading to her transfer to the university hospital.
At the university hospital, a computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed that blood had accumulated in the newborn's head.
The police are currently investigating A’s biological mother, Ms. B (27), on suspicion of child abuse causing serious injury under the Special Act on the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.
Ms. B is suspected of injuring her newborn daughter at their home between the 2nd and 3rd of this month.
During the police investigation, Ms. B initially claimed, “The baby fell off the bed,” but later changed her statement to, “I was holding the baby and dropped her on the bed.”
