In particular, they urged Lee Jae-myung, former governor of Gyeonggi Province and the Democratic Party’s general co-chairman of the election committee, who is running for the National Assembly by-election in Incheon Gyeyang district held alongside the local elections, to "waive parliamentary immunity."
Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, said at the Central Election Committee meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, "Lee’s declaration of candidacy is, in short, an escape from prosecution," and added, "If he is confident in the face of all suspicions, he should immediately declare the waiver of his parliamentary immunity." Members of the National Assembly cannot be arrested by investigative agencies during sessions, and the People Power Party claims that Lee intends to use this to delay the investigation into the 'Daejang-dong' case.
Floor leader Kwon further pressured Lee using expressions such as "Anyone can see it’s a flower palanquin," "Trying to enter the National Assembly without bloodshed by stepping over former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil," and "Because he needed the bulletproof vest called a member of the National Assembly."
Kim Ki-hyun, co-chairman of the People Power Party’s election committee, also criticized, "If the Democratic Party continues to be a one-man Democratic Party, obstructing state affairs and opposing for the sake of opposition, it is no different from ignoring the will of the people, reigning above them, and refusing to accept the presidential election results." He added, "I sincerely hope that they will not continue to be judged harshly by the people again for failing to abandon the DNA of double standards, poor communication, arrogance, and dogmatism." This was a criticism of the Democratic Party’s obstruction of the National Assembly’s approval process for President Yoon Suk-yeol’s first cabinet. After the meeting, floor leader Kwon told reporters, "The people want the new government to sail smoothly," emphasizing, "Whether they voted for President Yoon or not, the government must be stable for the people to feel at ease, and I believe the people will reasonably criticize the obstructionist behavior, which will also affect the local elections."

However, unlike the Democratic Party, which has appointed many incumbent lawmakers to the election committees of candidates for Seoul mayor, Gyeonggi governor, and Incheon Gyeyang district, the People Power Party has yet to present any concrete countermeasures. Park Hyung-soo, the party’s floor spokesperson, explained in a phone interview with Asia Economy, "There has been no separate discussion on this."
