Jangseong-gun Encourages Enrollment in Crop Disaster Insurance
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 10th that it has started encouraging enrollment in 'Crop Disaster Insurance' to minimize the economic losses of farmers from crop damage caused by natural disasters.
Crop Disaster Insurance is a system that compensates for crop damage caused by natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rains. If insured, compensation can be received when the harvest decreases due to natural disasters like typhoons and heavy rains.
Through special contracts, compensation is also possible for ▲ seven types of pests and diseases including white leaf blight, rice planthopper, and rice blast ▲ failure to transplant rice seedlings (moving seedlings grown in a nursery bed to the main paddy field) or direct seeding (sowing seeds directly into the paddy field) ▲ and cases where plant damage rate exceeds 65%, making further cultivation impossible.
Previously, the county had 1,804 hectares of rice farms enrolled in crop disaster insurance last year, among which 389 farms received insurance payments totaling 320 million KRW.
This year, the target area for rice crop disaster insurance is 4,448 hectares, with the county supporting 90% of the insurance premium. This is a 5% increase compared to last year.
Insurance enrollment can be done by visiting the local agricultural and livestock cooperatives directly by the 24th of next month.
A county official said, "Damage to rice farming caused by natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rains is repeated every year," and added, "Since most (90%) of the insurance premium is supported, please be sure to enroll within the deadline to stabilize your management."
