View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 10th that it has partnered with Hana Bank to open the second financial-specialized convenience store, ‘CU Bisan Xi Branch’.
CU Bisan Xi Branch is located near an apartment complex with about 5,000 households and a university with approximately 11,000 students, but there is not a single branch of a primary financial institution within a 500-meter radius. About 8 pyeong (approximately 26.4 square meters) of the 40-pyeong interior space has been set up as a Hana Bank Smart Self Zone, where one STM (Smart Teller Machine), a comprehensive financial device capable of handling over 50 types of banking services, and one CD (Cash Dispenser) machine for deposit and withdrawal services have been installed.
The STM allows customers to easily and conveniently handle banking tasks that previously required visiting a branch, such as account opening, passbook reissuance, and issuance of check cards and security cards (OTP), through video consultation and biometric authentication. Simple services available at general ATMs can be used 24 hours a day, while services requiring video connection with a consultant are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The financial-specialized convenience store is an innovative strategy to eliminate financial blind spots by integrating banking services into convenience stores that serve as complex living hubs, further strengthening the role of over 16,000 stores nationwide as digital life platforms. According to CU, the number of banking transactions using the comprehensive financial device (STM) at CU Machon Park Branch, the first financial-specialized store, exceeded 10,000 in about six months. This is four times the daily usage compared to when only an ATM providing simple deposit and withdrawal services was installed. Last month, the daily visitor count at CU Machon Park Branch nearly tripled compared to before the introduction of financial services, and the number of payments made using Hana Card at the store increased by 15.4% year-on-year.
