Government Seeks Research and Development Technologies in Culture, Sports, and Tourism
Technology Demand Survey Underway... Demand Selected Based on Urgency and Feasibility Criteria
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency are conducting a technology demand survey for culture, sports, and tourism research and development until the 31st. The survey aims to identify technology demands in the fields of content, culture and arts, tourism, sports, copyright, and others (such as convergence) to serve as basic data for establishing R&D projects. Anyone can participate and propose the technologies they need.
In the content sector, the survey seeks to discover technology demands for R&D related to cultural content, immersive content, and humanities-social convergence content and related services. It also looks for technologies necessary for global content planning and production. In the culture and arts sector, the focus is on technologies required for metaverse-based virtual performance content, while in tourism, the emphasis is on technologies to foster small and medium tourism enterprises. In the sports sector, technology demands related to non-face-to-face sports activities, performance enhancement, and support for recreational sports are collected. In the copyright sector, the survey explores core technologies for establishing a software copyright ecosystem and protecting immersive content copyrights.
The Ministry and the Korea Creative Content Agency select demands based on urgency and feasibility for R&D. They plan to derive new project proposals based on the survey data. A Korea Creative Content Agency official explained, "In the second half of the year, after planning by an expert group from industry, academia, and research institutes, request for proposals for each project will be prepared to finalize supported projects. Research institutions for the finalized projects will be selected through designated calls, and full-scale R&D support will begin in 2023."

To lower the barriers to the technology demand survey, the Korea Creative Content Agency is conducting 'visiting briefings.' They dispatch technology planning officers from the Culture, Sports and Tourism Technology Promotion Center to guide on the implementation system and how to fill out the demand survey form. They also plan to collect field feedback to improve the project and strengthen capabilities.
