Busan International Film Festival, "We Will Not Forget Your Efforts" Tribute to Kang Soo-yeon
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) expressed deep condolences on the passing of actress Kang Soo-yeon on the 7th.
On the same day, BIFF stated on social media, "Former executive committee chair Kang Soo-yeon worked hard to promote Korean cinema to the world," adding, "From 2015 to 2017, she dedicated herself as the executive committee chair to the successful operation of the Busan International Film Festival."
They continued, "BIFF will never forget her contributions," expressing their mourning.
Kang Soo-yeon had been involved with BIFF since its inception in 1996, serving as a juror and executive committee member. She took on the role of executive committee chair from 2015 to 2017, shortly after the festival faced a crisis due to the controversy surrounding the documentary 'Diving Bell,' which dealt with the Sewol ferry disaster.

Kang Soo-yeon collapsed at her home due to symptoms of a cerebral hemorrhage and remained unconscious for three days while receiving hospital treatment before passing away at around 3 p.m. on the 7th at the age of 55.
