Jeju Police Agency Promotes 'Safe One-Room Certification System'... 7 Locations Awarded Certification Plaques
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] The Jeju Police Agency (Chief Go Gi-cheol) announced on the 6th that it will actively promote the ‘Safe One-Room Certification System,’ which certifies crime prevention excellence facilities in one-room type accommodations with many single-person households, including women.
The Safe One-Room Certification System is a system where the Crime Prevention Officer (CPO) team conducts a detailed diagnosis based on a checklist (56 items, maximum 80 points) and awards a certification plaque if a certain standard (64 points or higher) is met.
Since its implementation in 2018, the Jeju Police had low application rates due to insufficient promotion, but from this year, they are conducting multifaceted promotional activities through the Real Estate Agents Association, Construction Association, and Oiljang Newspaper to revitalize the operation.
This year, 30 facilities applied, and among them, 7 facilities were awarded certification plaques.
Facility owners who received the safe certification said, “We feel proud to be selected through the police evaluation and to have the certification plaque attached,” and added, “Tenants also responded positively to the certification plaque and recognized the importance of crime prevention facilities such as CCTV and door locks.”
A female tenant in her 20s said, “I was always anxious whenever crimes targeting women were reported in the media, but knowing that the building I live in received the Safe One-Room certification literally makes me feel safe.”
For excellent facilities certified as Safe One-Rooms, regular patrol activities will be conducted in connection with flexible patrols, and facility owners can actively use the certification for facility promotion.
Applications can be made by visiting or calling the nearest police station.
A Jeju Police official said, “We plan to expand the certification of crime prevention excellence facilities through continuous promotional activities targeting building owners in areas densely populated with one-room accommodations,” and “We ask for active participation from residents.”
