Chungnam Invests 480 Billion KRW to Improve Welfare for People with Disabilities
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is investing a large-scale budget to improve welfare for people with disabilities.
On the 8th, the province announced that it recently held the ‘1st Disabled Welfare Committee’ meeting and decided to invest 481.314 billion KRW to improve welfare conditions for local people with disabilities.
The related budget is allocated as follows: ▲ Establishment of living convenience infrastructure for people with disabilities ‘185.195 billion KRW’ ▲ Expansion of welfare services for people with disabilities ‘165.899 billion KRW’ ▲ Vocational rehabilitation and self-reliance support ‘113.859 billion KRW’ ▲ Strengthening the rights of people with disabilities ‘16.361 billion KRW’.
The province also set 112 tasks to enhance welfare for people with disabilities.
First, in the field of establishing living convenience infrastructure, 33 tasks will be promoted with the goal of creating a living and residential environment equal to that of non-disabled people.
Representative initiatives include expanding the operation of low-floor buses to support free movement of people with disabilities, supporting the operation of disabled call taxis, and operating life mobility support centers. Additionally, tasks to improve convenience such as the distribution of information and communication assistive devices and support for activities of people with disabilities will be carried out simultaneously.
There are a total of 35 tasks to expand welfare services for people with disabilities. These tasks focus on overcoming limitations caused by disabilities and helping people with disabilities lead stable lives. Major projects include support for registration diagnosis fees and medical expenses, operation of oral treatment centers, medical rehabilitation, support for patients with intractable diseases, and emergency safety and security services for elderly disabled people living alone, ensuring health rights.
Furthermore, the province explained that it will build infrastructure such as healing centers for families of people with disabilities and rehabilitation hospitals in the Chungnam region, and strengthen protective activities at residential facilities and welfare centers for people with disabilities.
Vocational rehabilitation and self-reliance support will be promoted through 28 tasks focusing on social integration through self-reliance and realization of personal needs for people with disabilities. The core is to contribute to raising the living standards of people with disabilities through disability pensions and allowances, and to expand the self-reliance foundation by operating vocational rehabilitation facilities.
In addition, the province plans to implement 16 tasks in the field of strengthening the rights of people with disabilities, focusing on protecting human rights and rights of people with disabilities through institutions such as the Disabled Rights Advocacy Agency, shelters for disabled victims, and sexual violence counseling centers.

Meanwhile, the province will also establish the ‘4th Chungnam Five-Year Plan for the Development of Disabled Welfare (2023?2027).’ The five-year plan will be completed by the second half of this year after consultation with the Disabled Welfare Committee and will be fully implemented starting next year.
