[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party of Korea reaffirmed its determination to secure a victory for the Seoul mayoral election through a 'one team' approach on the 4th, ahead of the June 1 local elections.
Yoon Ho-jung, the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee Chairman, said at a meeting held at the National Assembly in the morning with Song Young-gil, the Seoul mayoral candidate, and the heads of 49 district committees in Seoul, "This local election is not only crucial for the Democratic Party but also for the future of the Republic of Korea," adding, "If Song's sincere loyalty is accepted by the citizens of Seoul, the Democratic Party's winning streak in local elections will continue."

Park Hong-geun, the floor leader, said at the meeting, "Seoul is no longer a stronghold that the Democratic Party can rely on," and added, "We must humbly accept the public sentiment while deeply reflecting on the harsh judgment of Seoul citizens." He promised, "To be chosen again, we must make tenfold or twentyfold efforts and race forward," and pledged, "We will devote ourselves to legislative and policy activities that bring hope to the citizens of Seoul within the National Assembly."
Receiving such support, candidate Song responded, "I am grateful," and said, "Even now, I will wholeheartedly embrace the hearts of the lawmakers, acknowledging that there was insufficient mutual understanding with Seoul-area lawmakers." Regarding the internal conflicts that arose during the Seoul mayoral candidate selection process, he said, "I believe that even if there are debates, uniting decision-making is the strength and potential of the Democratic Party," and added, "I will humbly accept the affectionate advice and criticisms from various lawmakers and form a 'one team.'"
He then took a jab at President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, saying, "We will win the local elections to prevent the 0.73 percentage point margin from monopolizing all power and acting arbitrarily, and to achieve national unity."
