Woowa Brothers Provides Emergency Medical and Living Expenses Support of 1.2 Billion KRW to 115 Riders
Establishment of the 'Elegant Rider Care Fund' in May 2019
Operated with a scale of 2.1 billion KRW... Donation delivered to Community Chest of Korea
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on the 4th that a total of 1.2 billion KRW has been provided to 115 riders through the 'Woowa Rider Care Fund' established in May 2019.
This fund is open to any food delivery rider. Until December 2020, a total of 28 riders were supported, and in the second year of full-scale support (March 2021 to February 2022), medical expenses were provided to 80 delivery workers. Among the 80 recipients in the second year, more than 50 were delivery workers not affiliated with Baemin riders, accounting for over 60%.
The fund is operated with a total scale of 2.1 billion KRW, including 2 billion KRW donated by Chairman Kim Bong-jin and 100 million KRW from the Woowa Brothers corporate fund. On the same day, Woowa Brothers CEO Kim Beom-jun is scheduled to meet Jo Heung-sik, Chairman of Community Chest of Korea, at the Community Chest building in Jung-gu, Seoul, to deliver the donation.
Woowa Brothers has improved policies to expand the scope of fund support. The eligibility criteria for riders were expanded from 120% to 140% of the median income. The support amount was also increased from a maximum of 10 million KRW to 15 million KRW (including medical and living expenses). Even if hospital bills were already paid without knowledge of this program, medical expenses are supported retroactively.
