Gangnam-gu Adds 116 Facilities for Voluntary Safety Inspections
Three Months Since the Enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act... Number of Facilities Subject to the Law Increased from 64 to 68 Starting April 18, with Additional Inspections of District-Managed Facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) has increased the number of mandatory inspection facilities to 68 since the 18th of last month, three months after the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, and will additionally conduct 'self-inspections' on 116 facilities managed by the district until the end of the year.
Gangnam-gu established the Serious Accident Prevention Team earlier this year with the goal of "Accident-Free Gangnam, Safe Gangnam." The team began full-scale activities with the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act on January 27 and has been conducting safety inspections on 64 mandatory inspection facilities since March 3.
Additionally, on April 1, the district launched the 'Serious Accident Prevention Office' directly under the Deputy District Mayor, devised measures to strengthen safety management, and expanded the facilities subject to inspection. The district conducted a full survey of administrative properties to meticulously check for any omissions among mandatory inspection facilities, adding four more sites. So far, over 140 risk factors have been identified and addressed.
Although not subject to the law, self-inspections will also be conducted on 116 facilities managed by the district.

Jeong Soon-gyun, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, "Safety can never be emphasized enough, so we have decided to apply strict safety management standards even to facilities not subject to the Serious Accident Punishment Act."
