Isaacson, Author of Jobs Biography, Says "Issue King Musk Makes Biography Work Thrilling"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Walter Isaacson, the author writing the biography of Elon Musk, the ‘eccentric’ and the world's richest person as well as Tesla CEO, said that covering Musk's ongoing life feels like "drinking water forcefully coming from a fire hose while taking notes."
On the 28th (local time), The New York Times (NYT) reported that Isaacson made this remark during a phone interview conducted the previous day, discussing the experience of writing Musk's biography amid the continuous stream of news about him. Isaacson is well-known for writing biographies of famous figures such as Benjamin Franklin and Steve Jobs. Musk had tagged Isaacson on his Twitter last August, revealing that Isaacson was working on his biography.
Isaacson stated, "I have always been interested in innovators and boundary-crossers, and he is someone crossing the most important and difficult boundaries," adding that he had discussions with Musk about the biography 7 to 8 months ago. Isaacson revealed that he did not sign a separate contract with Musk but simply asked Musk if he would grant permission to write the biography, and within 10 minutes of receiving the affirmative response, Musk posted a tweet about it.
Isaacson said he has met Musk himself and about 200 of his acquaintances to write the biography, and recently has been accompanying Musk as well. He added that Musk is actively sharing his story and helping facilitate interviews with his acquaintances.

Isaacson described writing Musk's story in a long narrative form as not easy, likening it to a festival day without a fixed date. He mentioned that recent events such as the Twitter acquisition agreement could become new subplots in the biography. He said, "I still don’t quite know how to unfold the story," but added, "There is one clear narrative: from a troublesome childhood in South Africa to becoming the most influential person in the world." He also expressed that writing the biography of a living subject is "more thrilling."
