[Agyeong Poll] Gyeonggi Province Governor, Kim Dong-yeon 43.3% vs Kim Eun-hye 43.9%... Neck-and-neck Within Margin of Error
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] In the June 1 local elections, Kim Dong-yeon, the Democratic Party candidate running for Governor of Gyeonggi Province, and Kim Eun-hye, the People Power Party candidate, are showing a neck-and-neck race within the margin of error. This is interpreted as the consolidation of support bases intensifying following the parties' primaries and the confirmation of their gubernatorial candidates.
On the 29th, Asia Economy commissioned Realmeter to conduct a public opinion poll from the 27th to 28th targeting 1,010 men and women aged 18 or older residing in Gyeonggi Province (90% mobile, 10% landline, automated response). When asked who is the most suitable candidate for the next Governor of Gyeonggi Province, 43.3% of respondents chose Kim Dong-yeon, while 43.9% selected Kim Eun-hye. The gap between the two candidates was 0.6 percentage points, within the margin of error. Other figures accounted for 7.6%, and the undecided group, choosing 'none (3.0%)' or 'don't know (2.2%)', made up 5.2%.
By age group, except for those in their 60s, the support rate for Kim Dong-yeon was higher than for Kim Eun-hye across all age groups.
In the 20s (51.0%), 30s (44.6%), 40s (54.0%), and 50s (52.3%), the proportion of respondents supporting Kim Dong-yeon was higher, while among those aged 60 and above (70.2%), support for Kim Eun-hye was higher.
By region, Kim Dong-yeon led in the northern Gyeonggi area (47.8%), while Kim Eun-hye was ahead in the eastern area (50.2%).
