At the joint press conference, Jeonnam Superintendent candidate Jang Seok-woong, Gwangju Superintendent candidate Jeong Seong-hong, and Jeonbuk Superintendent candidate Cheon Ho-seong participated together.
The Democratic progressive superintendent candidates in the Honam region stated, “Since the last presidential election, the democratic progressive camp is concerned about a regression to the past, and there is great worry that the achievements of educational reform carried out so far may be reversed.”
Through their declaration, the candidates emphasized, “If we do not overcome the educational gap between the metropolitan area and local regions, the deepening social polarization, and the climate ecological crisis we face today, it will be difficult to envision a happy life for our children and a sustainable future for the region.”
They continued, “We will inherit the educational innovation achievements of progressive superintendents since 2010 and complete an educational system where the dreams and individuality of children and youth come alive, achieving true growth and development.”
They promised six joint pledges: ▲ Protect educational publicness against the Yoon Seok-yeol government’s privileged competitive education ▲ Abolish tuition fees at regional universities in the Honam area and expand regional talent selection ▲ Inherit and develop the Honam spirit of democracy and culture and arts education, known as the land of loyalty and music ▲ Operate the ‘Honam Career Comprehensive Center’ supporting local government children and youth’s career, employment, and entrepreneurship ▲ Strengthen ecological environmental education and jointly practice emergency actions for carbon neutrality and the Honam region’s climate crisis ▲ Guarantee student and parent participation in school management and grant budget formulation and execution authority to complete school autonomy.
