[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Hong Nam-pyo, the People Power Party candidate for mayor of Changwon, held a press conference at the Changwon City Hall Press Center on the 27th to announce his vision and strategy for the development of Changwon. This was his first public event four days after being selected as the final candidate for mayor of Changwon on the 23rd.
On that day, Candidate Hong stated, “I will innovate Changwon to fit the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution,” presenting the vision of “Northeast Asia’s Central City, Changwon!”
He explained, “Changwon in the past industrialization era was a proud city that led South Korea’s economic development, from the Masan Free Export Zone to a machinery industrial city, but in the current era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it is losing vitality as it fails to keep up with the rapidly changing times.”
He also pledged, “Science and technology are the economy, especially in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. I will innovate Changwon to fit this era, restore the vitality of the local economy, and recover it as a healthy community where warm human affection flows.”
He added, “To respond to the spirit of the times, I present the vision ‘Northeast Asia’s Central City, Changwon’ and the ‘Hi, Five’ strategy to implement it,” emphasizing, “We have prepared a strategy to make Changwon a mecca of the 4th Industrial Revolution with many new jobs by supporting industrial structure reorganization, a warm welfare and hopeful city, a city of high dignity, a convenient smart city to live in, and a hopeful city where young people dream.”
He continued, “During this election period, I plan to announce specific project pledges to implement these strategies,” and said, “Masan, Changwon, and Jinhae regions will promote projects specialized for each area to develop into cities where prosperity is evenly shared.”

Born in Haman and a graduate of Masan High School, Candidate Hong began his public service career after passing the Technical High Civil Service Examination while attending Seoul National University. He has served as the Director of the Science and Technology Strategy Headquarters at the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, among other positions.
