[Concall] Samsung Electronics "Q2 Galaxy S22 Key Component Supply Shortage Resolved"
Q1 Conference Call Scheduled for the 28th
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Samsung Electronics stated during its Q1 earnings conference call on the 28th that "the market downturn is expected to continue in Q2, with ongoing uncertainties due to COVID-19 and international geopolitical issues," and "the smartphone market is projected to decline compared to the previous quarter."
Despite the bleak market outlook for Q2, the company plans to maintain strong performance following Q1. The Mobile Experience (MX) division, responsible for the smartphone business, recorded revenue and operating profit of KRW 32.37 trillion and KRW 3.82 trillion, respectively. The Galaxy S22 series' highest-spec 'Ultra' model raised the average selling price (ASP), and the A series, catering to mass demand, also showed strong sales.
Samsung Electronics said, "We will address major component supply issues through strengthened cooperation with partners and equipment contracts, and strive to grow sales compared to the previous year," adding, "We expect difficulties related to the supply of key components for the Galaxy S22 to be resolved."
The company anticipates that business conditions will improve in the second half of the year compared to the first half. Samsung Electronics stated, "Although the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and component supply issues will continue in the second half of 2022, the annual smartphone market is expected to grow overall," and "the wearable market is also expected to see double-digit high growth following last year."
