Im Taehee Preliminary Candidate: "Gyeonggi Office of Education Must Transform from Supervisor to Service Institution"
[Asia Economy (Uiwang) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Im Tae-hee, a preliminary candidate for Gyeonggi Province Superintendent of Education, argued that the role of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education needs to be redefined and that it should be reborn as a service institution.
On the 27th, candidate Im visited Gyeonggi Foreign Language High School located in Uiwang and met with school officials and students, emphasizing, "To solve the problem of declining academic achievement in public education, if there are good programs or content conducted by private schools as supplements to public education, they should be applied to raise students' academic levels."
He added, "Children need to study and accumulate knowledge, but if the Free Semester System is given starting from the time they enter middle school, I think there is no time to accumulate it," pointing out that "there are many aspects public education needs to reflect on."
He also said, "Currently, the private sector probably knows better ways to improve academic achievement," adding, "That should be used as a supplement to public education, and Edutech should be attached to create an environment where children can study."
Furthermore, he insisted, "To make all of this possible, the role of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education needs to be redefined," stating, "It should be reborn as a service institution that allows schools to autonomously focus on the children, rather than an institution that creates projects, distributes them, and supervises and directs."
