[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Woo-seok] The prosecution has demanded a life sentence for a woman in her 30s accused of killing her husband by feeding him food mixed with a lethal dose of nicotine concentrate.
On the 27th, the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office announced that at the sentencing hearing held on the 25th at the Suwon District Court Criminal Division 13 (Presiding Judge Lee Gyu-young), it requested a life sentence for A (37, female), who was indicted on charges including murder.
The prosecution stated, "Considering past cases where life sentences were handed down for similar incidents," and added, "The defendant denies the crime and claims that the victim committed suicide, showing no sign of remorse. It is appropriate to permanently isolate the defendant from society so that she can repent her wrongdoing and live with a lifelong sense of atonement."
A was indicted on charges of causing the death of her husband B by nicotine poisoning by making him consume misutgaru (a traditional Korean grain powder drink), water, and porridge mixed with nicotine concentrate three times on May 26 and 27 of last year.
On the 26th, A gave B misutgaru and porridge mixed with nicotine concentrate, and after B felt pain from eating the food and received treatment at a hospital before returning home, she made him drink water mixed with nicotine concentrate again in the early morning of the 27th. The amount of nicotine B ingested was found to be above the lethal dose.
The prosecution has determined that A committed the crime due to personal issues such as an extramarital affair and debts, but the defense denies the murder charges.
