The Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 7 (Presiding Judge Kim Doyeon) announced on the 26th that it sentenced Mr. A (34), who was indicted on charges of computer fraud and special property damage, to two years in prison.
Mr. A was prosecuted for conducting voice phishing using a goldsmith's account in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province, in March of last year and receiving gold items worth about 6 million won.
At the time, Mr. A entered a goldsmith shop in Gimpo and asked the owner for the account number, saying he wanted to buy a bracelet and a ring. It is known that one of the same gang members transferred the victim's money to the goldsmith owner's account.
The gang committed the crime by having the victim install a malicious application and stealing financial information.
The owner confirmed the deposit and gave Mr. A a gold bracelet weighing about 20 don.
It was investigated that Mr. A, in collusion with the fraud group members, embezzled precious metals worth about 51 million won over five times in about a month using the same method.
Meanwhile, on June 13 of last year, around 3 p.m., Mr. A caused an accident by driving a passenger car and hitting four vehicles in a row while fleeing from police officers of the Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station on a road in Gwanak-gu, Seoul.
