The Democratic Party Central Election Commission announced on the 26th that former Secretary Kang won the Gwangju mayoral primary with 57.14% of the vote, defeating incumbent Mayor Lee Yong-seop, who received 42.86%, and was selected as the final candidate. The party's election commission conducted a primary in the form of a public opinion poll (50% party members, 50% general public) over four days starting from the 23rd, involving former Secretary Kang and Mayor Lee.
