Candidate Park Wansu resigns from Uichang-gu assembly seat... "Will honor the call to serve in a greater public office"

Park won against former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Lee Ju-young in the People Power Party’s Gyeongnam gubernatorial primary and will run as the Gyeongnam governor candidate in the nationwide local elections this June.
Park Wansu bowed his head, saying, “I apologize for resigning before completing my term.”
“I believe it is the will of the people of Uichang-gu to heed the wishes of the residents of Gyeongnam to serve in a higher public office,” he said, adding, “I will dedicate myself to developing Uichang and Changwon, which have shown great favor to me, even further by taking charge of the provincial administration.”
He also expressed his ambition, saying, “I will revitalize Gyeongnam by developing industry and creating many jobs so that young people who have left their hometowns will return,” and “I will support the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s governance and create a new history for Gyeongnam.”
The resignation letter submitted by Park is scheduled to be presented at the National Assembly plenary session on the 28th.

After passing the plenary session and completing the resignation process on the 30th of this month, a by-election for Uichang-gu will likely be held alongside the local elections in June.
