Im Taehee Gyeonggi Education Superintendent Preliminary Candidate "Lee Jaejung's Gyeonggi Education at D Grade Level"
[Asia Economy (Namyangju) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Im Tae-hee, a preliminary candidate for Gyeonggi Province Superintendent of Education, stated that the biggest problem with the current Lee Jae-jeong-style Gyeonggi education is the "decline in academic achievement," and it is difficult to give the related policies a grade higher than a D.
On the 26th, Im Tae-hee held a meeting with the Namyangju Parents' Association and claimed, "The biggest problem in Gyeonggi education is the decline in academic achievement, which has led many parents to rely on private education because public education is not providing proper education," adding, "The academic gap has widened further due to COVID-19."
Regarding the current Gyeonggi education, he said, "Gyeonggi education is at a D grade level; the intention is good, so it barely avoids an F," and added, "(If I become the Superintendent of Education) I will at least ensure that those educated in Gyeonggi Province have basic learning competencies."
Parents from Namyangju who attended the meeting expressed dissatisfaction with the current Gyeonggi education, stating ▲ "They do not think the free semester system should start from the first year of middle school," ▲ "The free semester system feels like an extension of elementary school’s 7th grade," ▲ "It is very unfortunate that the time to study, which marks the beginning of more in-depth learning different from elementary school, is being missed upon entering middle school," and ▲ "Although it is said to be experience-based learning, the quality of that learning is poor, and even if students want to experience something, there are many restrictions imposed by the school."
In response, candidate Im said, "The free semester system has become a free-for-all," and promised, "I will do my best to first build basic academic skills so that children can study during the time they need to, and to enhance digital competencies, ethics in the digital society, foreign language skills, and cultural and artistic competencies."
He also emphasized, "I will introduce metaverse-type devices and equipment to schools to provide various experiential opportunities and create big data for each student to strengthen 'student-customized learning.'"
