View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, responded to the Democratic Party's criticism that he reversed the 'complete removal of prosecution's investigative authority (Geomsu Wanbak) mediation plan' agreed upon by both ruling and opposition parties after a phone call with Han Dong-hoon, the nominee for Minister of Justice, by saying, "If you don't know well, you should seek advice from legal experts while engaging in politics."
In a post on Facebook on the 25th, Lee said, "Candidate Han has a very clear stance on this issue and, from the perspective of an investigation expert, clearly explained the damage that the public could suffer if Geomsu Wanbak is implemented."
Lee continued, "Legislation for the people should be about debating whose opinion is correct, not judged by the number of seats," and sarcastically criticized, "If the Democratic Party is curious about Geomsu Wanbak, they should seek advice from former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae. Wasn't the controversy over Geomsu Wanbak originally started in February 2020 when former Minister Choo said she would pursue the separation of investigation and prosecution?"
Earlier, on the 22nd, the ruling and opposition parties agreed to accept the 'Geomsu Wanbak' mediation plan proposed by National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok, but Lee publicly expressed opposition and hinted at reconsidering the negotiation plan. It is known that Lee gathered opinions, including a direct phone call with candidate Han, before announcing his reconsideration. Candidate Han has expressed opposition to the Geomsu Wanbak bill.

In response, the Democratic Party criticized Lee, saying, "The party leader is wavering over a single phone call." Yoon Ho-jung, co-chair of the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee, said at the committee meeting on the 25th, "Even before the ink on the ruling and opposition parties' agreement dries, statements denying the agreement are coming from the People Power Party side," and added, "It is truly pitiful how many sins they must have committed. We will not tolerate any attempt to break the ruling and opposition parties' agreement."
